The GRIF-RUN week will be divided in 2 main parts :

The location of the meeting in the North

From Monday 2 to Wednesday 4 October, the meeting will take place at the University of Reunion Island in Saint Denis. It is located on the Moufia campus :

The University of Reunion Island is a French public higher education and research institution, located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, one of Europe's outermost regions. By virtue of its unique geostrategic position it is the only European university in the region.

The visits in the South

From Thursday 5 to Friday 6 October, you will be staying in the city of Saint-Pierre.

There will be a visit to the Maïdo atmospheric observatory and a visit to the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de La Fournaise.

The Maido observatory

Physics of the Atmosphere observatory at Le Maïdo, aims at studying the development of the climate, atmosphere and stratosphere and it is one of five fixed stations of this type in the southern hemisphere. This observatory makes Reunion a crucial player in monitoring the atmosphere and climate change in the southern hemisphere. 

The departure of the shuttles will be from Best-Western Saint Denis Hotel.     

The volcanologic observatory of Piton de La Fournaise

The volcanological observatory of Piton de La Fournaise (OVPF) focuses on :

  • research into volcanic eruption phenomena
  • studies and development of eruption warnings
  • monitoring of geochemical changes of eruptive products
  • development and testing of predictive eruption instruments
  • geology of the land
  • prediction and monitoring of eruptions for civil protection

The departure of the shuttles will be from the Saint-Pierre Hotel.
